WW2 Carentan Road Sign

Reproduction "Carentan" road sign.

These road signs are high quality replicas of the original WW2 vintage signs. Made of high grade 18 gauge steel and measuring approximately 83 x 25 cm, these are impressive pieces of WW2 memorabilia.

These particular signs are from the French town of Carentan, scene of a major battle in Europe in WW2. In the wake of the Normandy landings on D-Day, the Allies needed to rapidly consolidate their position in Northern France. A key objective was to take the town of Carentan, strategically located at the intersection of multiple transport routes. The American 101st Airborne Division was tasked with securing Carentan and encountered resistance from two German Fallschirmjager battalions. The U.S. paratroopers forced the under-supplied Germans to retreat but a counter-attack by the 17th SS Panzergrenadier Division forced the 101st to dig in. On 13 June, elements of the U.S. 2nd Armored Division came to the aid of the paratroopers and succeeded in breaking the German counter-attack and thus securing Carentan. Their victory paved the way to the liberation of Normandy and, ultimately, all of France.

These signs are a symbol of history and would make a great gift for any WW2 history enthusiast. These items make excellent display pieces.

Please note: These signs have sharp edges and should be handled with caution.
