WW2 Arnhem Road Sign
Reproduction "Arnhem" road sign.
These road signs are high quality replicas of the original WW2 vintage signs. Made of high grade 18 gauge steel and measuring approximately 83 x 25 cm, these are impressive pieces of WW2 memorabilia.
These particular signs are from the Dutch town of Arnhem, scene of the final major battle in Europe in WW2. In September 1944, a plan formulated by British Field Marshal Montgomery sought to use Airborne forces to seize a series of key bridges, allowing the British XXX Corps to advance over the Rhine and into Germany. The northernmost bridge was located in the town of Arnhem and was the objective of the British 1st Airborne Division and Polish 1st Parachute Brigade. The Allied forces landed and encountered two SS Panzer divisions which were in the area for rest and refitting. In the ensuing battle, the paratroopers fought doggedly but were ultimately forced to retreat as reinforcements were unable to come to their aid in time. The battle became an iconic symbol of determined resistance in the face of adversity but Montgomery's dream of crossing the Rhine in 1944 ultimately proved overambitious.
These signs are a symbol of history and would make a great gift for any WW2 history enthusiast. These items make excellent display pieces.
Please note: These signs have sharp edges and should be handled with caution.
