Description
Introduced in 1940 as part of the German Army's effort to conserve leather resources, gaiters soon replaced the iconic jackboots for many soldiers by the war's end. Initially issued to rear-line and support troops, their practicality quickly led to widespread use among front-line soldiers, and by the time the M43 uniform was introduced, gaiters had become standard issue across the Wehrmacht. In fact, they were seen more commonly on the battlefield than the traditional jackboots.
Our reproduction gaiters are designed to capture all the key features of these iconic pieces of military gear. Made from tough olive canvas, they feature leather tabs and a scalloped edge for that authentic, detailed look. The ankle-tapered design of the gaiters fits perfectly with M43 trousers, ensuring a streamlined and practical fit. Additionally, the heel strap keeps the gaiters securely in place, preventing any shifting while in motion.
These gaiters were worn by soldiers across all branches of the German military, including the Heer, Luftwaffe, and Waffen-SS, and came in various shades of green and blue, with either black or brown leather straps. Our reproduction gaiters stay true to the original, providing a realistic and durable accessory for your uniform or collection.
