Description
Introduced in 1940, gaiters provided a practical means for the German army to conserve leather as the Second World War progressed. Initially, the gaiters were issued to rear-line troops and support units, but their practicality soon saw them being issued to the front-line also. By the time the M43 uniform was introduced, gaiters had become standard issue across the Wehrmacht and were by all three branches. Their widespread use marked a significant shift, as they became more common on the battlefield than the iconic jackboot.
Our reproduction gaiters were created with this lengthy history in mind. Consisting of a strong, khaki green canvas and including a pair of stout leather tabs, the gaiters are made to be functional and efficient. Intended to protect the lower part of the leg, these will help to keep your ankles and calves free from dirt, mud and debris during long days of reenactment. Alongside this, the attached heel strap will prevent any slippage, meaning you can focus on the task at hand.
Whether completing your uniform or adding a key piece to your collection, our gaiters combine quality, practicality, and history in one essential accessory.
