Description
The Driver’s Proficiency Badge was an important award in the German military during WW2. Recognising skill and dedication, the badge was issued in three grades – bronze, silver and gold – each corresponding to the type and length of service. The requirements for earning the reward were vehicle dependent; for example, dispatch riders had a shorter service requirement than truck drivers, but all recipients were expected to demonstrate their proficiency, and provide good upkeep, with their vehicles.
This reproduction of the silver badge mirrors the original in its design and lightweight construction. The central emblem—a steering wheel encircled by a laurel wreath—represents the high standards of driving and vehicle maintenance expected of its recipients. The badge was worn on the left sleeve of the tunic, positioned between the elbow and sleeve cuff, signifying the soldier’s dedication and skill.
An excellent addition for collectors, reenactors, and military history enthusiasts!
