Description
The Driver’s Proficiency Badge was an important award in the German military during WW2. Recognising skill and dedication, the badge was issued in three grades – bronze, silver and gold – each corresponding to the type and length of service. The requirements for earning the reward were vehicle dependent; for example, dispatch riders had a shorter service requirement than truck drivers, but all recipients were expected to demonstrate their proficiency, and provide good upkeep, with their vehicles.
This fantastic reproduction of the bronze badge captures the distinctive design and lightweight construction of the original. The central emblem – a steering wheel surrounded by a laurel wreath – symbolises the high standards of driving and maintenance required to earn the award. The badge, affixed to a field grey wool backing, is designed to be worn on the left sleeve of the tunic, positioned between the elbow and sleeve cuff, marking the soldier’s skill and dedication.
A perfect item for collectors, reenactors and those interested in military history.
