As the Second World War intensified and the US Army found itself engaged across multiple, often unforgiving theatres of war, the shortcomings of earlier uniform designs became increasingly apparent. Troops needed clothing that could withstand the rigors of combat while offering greater practicality and comfort. In response, the Army introduced the M1943 uniform system. Central to this redesign were the M43 trousers.
Issued broadly to infantry and other frontline units from 1943 onwards, these trousers are constructed from strong olive drab cotton and feature a soft white cotton inner lining. Alongside this, the trousers come equipped with adjustable waist tabs and internal suspender buttons, meaning that their fit can be tailored to meet your individual needs, a significant improvement over earlier, less adaptable designs. The inclusion of reinforced belt loops takes this even further, allowing for an additional layer of support when wearing a webbing belt or equipment-laden pistol belt.
Practicality is woven into every detail of the M43 trousers.
