Introduced in 1943, the M43 uniform aimed to standardise combat attire across various Army divisions, including the Airborne. Recognising the specific needs of paratroopers, Airborne units modified the standard M43 trousers by adding large canvas cargo pockets to the legs, as well as incorporating leg ties into the design. These modifications provided paratroopers with the means to be battle-ready from the very moment they jumped.
