To become a US Officer during the Second World War, a rank of Lieutenant through General must be achieved. During the war, this rank could have been given to a soldier or enlisted man due to their background, name status or college degree – note this is because of the special circumstances. An interesting fact to add was that all female US military nurses were entered automatically as lieutenants, with the idea that this would stop unwanted attention from enlisted men.
