The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire was instituted in 1917 by King George V and later redesigned by King George VI in 1936.
This is the 2nd type CBE awarded from 1936 and is still awarded today. This award is a gold-coloured cross patonce inlaid with light blue enamel, surmounted above by the King's Crown, and a central medallion on the cross that is surrounded by the Order's motto 'For God and the Empire' surrounded by a scarlet enamel. The centre of the cross depicts the busts of King George VI and Queen Mary.
This replica is of the Commander class, the third highest of the order, and is complete with a rose neck ribbon with pearl white edging denoting the civilian division of the award, and a card with instructions on the wearing of the insignia. The award comes with a fetching leatherette case stamped in gold with 'C.B.E'.
