Airfix 1/72 North American F-51D Mustang
One of the most iconic US aircraft of the Second World War, the F-51D (originally named P-51) was designed to fulfill an RAF specification and with a long-range and excellent firepower, it made it a superb escort fighter, able to protect the bombers all the way to Berlin and back. It is recorded as being the top-scoring Allied fighter of the war with 4,950 enemy aircraft destroyed. After the war, it was selected as the USAF primary piston-engined fighter and as a result, in 1948 the name was changed from P for Pursuit to F for Fighter.
