Description
As German forces expanded into North Africa in 1940, the need for a more suitable uniform became apparent. The heavy wool uniforms previously used were ill-suited for the arid conditions faced by the Deutsches Afrika Korps (DAK). By the time troops arrived in Tripoli in 1941, a new tropical uniform made from breathable cotton twill in olive green was issued.
Around the same time, the Luftwaffe began to develop its own tropical uniform, tailored for the harsh climates of North Africa and made from similar cotton twill fabric. These trousers were designed in a sand or khaki color, suitable for all branches of the Luftwaffe and Fallschirmjäger operating in tropical environments. Although initially intended for North Africa, their use quickly spread to soldiers stationed in other warmer European locations, including Italy, Sicily, Malta, and Crete, primarily during the summer and autumn months. Troops would later switch back to their standard wool uniforms as the temperatures dropped.
The trousers feature the authentic belted style, complete with functional pockets at the hips and back, and a thigh pocket on the front of the left leg, as seen on the originals. Additionally, they come with a matching belt and include buttons and straps at the base of each leg, allowing for a snug fit around the ankles.
