First introduced in the 1850s by General Sir Samuel Browne to help him draw his sword after losing his left arm, this design became standard British Army officer kit by the Second Boer War. It served through both World Wars and is still worn today for some ceremonial dress uniforms.

We've made this reproduction from thick black leather with a natural brown underside. The 55mm wide waist belt uses a traditional double-prong brass buckle, while the 33mm wide cross strap is fully adjustable. You also get a brass sword hook on the left and a ring of sturdy D-rings for your gear.

It's ideal if you're putting together a British officer impression for the Armoured or Aviation corps, where black leather was the standard. The diagonal strap does a great job of taking the weight of a heavy pistol holster or sword frog off your waist, making it comfortable to wear all day on parade.
