Description
First introduced in 1864 by Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II, the Mecklenburg-Schwerin Military Merit Cross (Militärverdienstkreuz) was originally awarded for bravery during the Second Schleswig War, later seeing use in the Austro-Prussian War and the Franco-Prussian War. In 1914, at the outbreak of World War I, Grand Duke Friedrich Franz IV reissued the decoration with a new design, closely resembling the Iron Cross. This updated version was awarded to officers and enlisted personnel of the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin for exceptional bravery and distinguished service in combat.
Our reproduction, made from hardy brass with a gold-toned finish, has been meticulously crafted to reflect the elegance and significance of the original. Featuring a striking cross pattée design, with an embossed “FF” at its centre and a royal crown at its top, the cross is marked with the year “1914” to signify the year it was reintroduced. Alongside this, the cross comes with a sturdy pin and clasp attachment, making for an easy way to attach the award to a uniform or display.
A must-have for enthusiasts of World War I history. Add this distinguished piece to your collection today!
