These WW2 US M1 helmet fixed U-shaped bales are ideal for repairing or converting your helmet shell.

During the early years of World War Two, the US Army introduced the iconic M1 helmet with rigid, rectangular wire loops welded directly to the sides of the steel shell. These early-war fixed loop fittings were standard issue from 1941 until late 1943, when the military switched to swivel loops to prevent breakage in the field.
Each element in this pair of U-shaped bales measures 30mm across and is constructed from robust 3mm wire. They are coated in a period-correct olive drab shade and feature pressed, flat tabs at each end to allow a clean, direct metal connection when you attach them to the steel pot.
These loops are perfect for converting later-war swivel-bale shells or repairing broken originals. You can easily spot weld or braze them onto your helmet rim. Once in place, they provide the correct rigid anchor for sewing on your early-war khaki OD3 cotton chinstraps to complete your infantry impression.

Care Instructions
Grind away any paint on the contact points before spot welding to ensure a strong, residue-free bond, and touch up with olive drab paint afterward to prevent corrosion.
