During the early years of World War Two, the US Army developed the M2 paratrooper helmet to meet the needs of airborne troops. McCord manufactured these shells with distinctive curved, D-shaped bales welded inside. These replaced the standard rectangular infantry loops, allowing chinstraps to adjust more freely for jump operations.
These reproduction bales are made of raw mild steel, making them easy to weld onto your helmet shell. Each bale features correctly flattened, angled feet that follow the slope of the helmet's interior rim. The base of each loop spans 36mm across the tips, matching the exact size and wire thickness of original McCord-made paratrooper gear.
If you are restoring an original early-war US helmet or converting a post-war shell for your WWII airborne impression, these steel loops are the perfect starting point. Simply grind down your old swivel loops, sand the area clean, and spot-weld these D-bales in place. They give you the proper look for a Normandy-era paratrooper setup.
