This is an very good reproduction of the World War Two Knights Cross of the War Merit Cross (Ritterkreuz des Kriegsverdienstkreuzes), and comes complete with 12 inches of the correct ribbon.
This award was instituted in August 1940 at the same time as the War Merit Cross, with the lower grades being a prerequisite to its award. It would be awarded to personnel who had shown outstanding military bravery but not directly under enemy fire. The award ranks above the Order of the German Cross in Silver.
