Description

WW2 German M37 Low Boots - Natural

Two-tone, leather and rough-out leather, M37 Low Boots

From 1937, soldiers in the German army received a pair of "Schnürschuhe" (Low Boots) alongside their issued pair of "Knobelbecher"(Jackboots).

Initially meant as a part of the "Drillichanzug" (a linen uniform used for basic training) only, regulation changes in late 1939 to conserve leather, meant that the "Schnürschuhe" started to see more and more action on the front line, as jackboots were restricted (and ultimately discontinued to EM in 1943). In place of the restricted jackboot, from 1940, the Low Boots were worn with "Gamaschen" (Gaiters) to overlap the boots with the trousers.

Though most boots came out of the factory untanned, the sides of the soles were always blackened and soldiers were ordered to blacken their boots.

Each pair of these German M37 Low Boots features:

  • Leather shafts and "rough out" toe
  • 5 x eyelets & 4 x lace hooks
  • Leather laces
  • Hobnails
  • Stacked wooden heel

March off in a pair of these solid reproduction German M43 Low Boots and complete your German impression!

Please note that due to the nature of this boot, it is best to treat them before initial use. You can find many good videos on youtube on how to do this but basic instructions can be found below:

When they are new and during the break in Phase:

  • Clean with leather soap and water and leave to dry stored away and stuffed with newspaper. Keep away from radiators! Room temperature will suffice.
  • Soften the leather with leather oil on the top of the boot and use linseed oil (or similar) on the leather sole several times.
  • Use leather grease/dubbin in the crevasses, on the seams and on the "rough out" part of the shoe
  • Impregnate the sole with leather shoe sole impregnation formula (or snow seal).
  • During the break-in phase, grease them DAILY and afterwards, always clean the boots after use and make sure, they are dry.
