WW2 German Demjansk Shield
This is a reproduction of the World War Two German Demjansk Shield.
This award was instituted in April 1943 and was awarded to troops who had fought in the Demyansk pocket (Eastern Front). The criteria for this award were:
- Honourable service in the pocket for at east 60 days
- Getting wounded/ frost-bite.
This award was also given to members of the Luftwaffe who had flown 50 combat or supply missions over the besieged area.
The award was to be worn on the upper left arm of the recipients uniform - if another such award was gained they could be worn one above the other, separated by a space of 5mm.
Please Note: They would have been supplied on a backing of cloth patch indicative of the branch of the recepient (Field Grey for Heer, Blue for Luftwaffe, Black for Panzer). However these badges come without the attached uniform patch. You can find the accompanying uniform patches here.
