Description
Our beautiful reproduction is that good, you’d think it was authentic. Made from a rough woollen exterior, this coat looks and feels the part. Just like the original, it benefits from a double-breasted front while the back is vent to provide extra room for equipment and utilities on the belt. The brass buttons are meticulous in detail with their ‘General Service’ design.
The 1940 pattern Greatcoat was introduced after many soldiers complained about the earlier 1939 pattern being too tight, making it too difficult to wear over equipment. They also found that the 39-pattern used too much material, and with war going into full swing, cost saving measures were needed. This meant that the 40 Pattern was slightly shorter than its predecessor, and featured a vented back, to allow for more room, when the rear belt was adjusted. Both the 39 and 40 pattern Greatcoats were seen in service all the way throughout the war.
This greatcoat is ideal for someone looking to add a bit of warmth to their Second World War British Soldier impression.
