The 50th Northumbrian Division fought throughout the European and North African theatres of WW2. It was part of the BEF during the Battle of France in 1940 before being evacuated at Dunkirk. As part of the Eighth Army the division fought from Egypt to Tunisia in North Africa before taking part in the Allied invasion of Sicily. The Division was then withdrawn to Britain in preparation for the D-Day landings. The 50th landed at Gold Beach and fought throughout Normandy and into the Low Countries.
