WW1 German Trench Armour
Reproduction WW1 German Trench Armour.
As a result of the increased danger to its soldiers on the front line, the German Army developed armour to provide greater protection from incoming fire and shrapnel. Made from a mix of nickel and silicon, the armour had an articulated design and consisted of a single main chest plate with three smaller articulated plates beneath it for flexibility. The armour was designed to fit over a soldier's uniform and provide protection to the chest, abdomen and groin.
Although the armour provided additional protection, it was too heavy to be used by assault units and had mainly been used by machine gunners and snipers. Nevertheless, the German Army issued nearly half a million vests to its soldiers during the war.
Our excellent reproductions feature the same design as the originals and have an accurate colour and finish. The fit easily over the top of a uniform. As can be seen in the images, the vests look excellent as part of a German WW1 loadout and we highly recommend them to anyone interested in WW1 reenactment.
These are excellent reproductions and make a great addition to any German WW1 outfit.
