War Merit Cross 2nd Class Medal Ribbon without Swords Medal Ribbon
This award was instituted in 1939 at the same time as the other War Merit Crosses and was intended to replace the earlier non-combatant Iron cross and ribbon. Like the other War Merit crosses it could be awarded either with or without swords. This version with the swords would have been presented to military personnel acts of courage and bravery but not directly in the face of the enemy.
This medal ribbon features red and white stripes on a black background.
