The War Merit Cross with Swords was instituted on the 11th October, 1939, and was awarded for civilian or military merit which did not involve combat service on the front line. This is the 1st Class version with swords, which was awarded for bravery in the face of physical danger.
These crossed feature a smart, light silvered finish to the front with a flat pin to the reverse for fitting.
Worn on the left breast pocket of the tunic.
