Description
Part of the White Star Line - Titanic Collection, this Titanic Sinking Telegram is a faithful reproduction of the historic message sent after the ship struck the iceberg. Printed on paper with an authentic feel, it’s an exceptional piece for any collector or history enthusiast. This was the Telegram received at the Western Union office in New York City, via Marconi wireless, April 15, 1912. The telegram was relayed to Western Union from the Marconi station in Cape Race, Newfoundland. The first six distress telegrams were all marked "CDQ" (All Stations Distress) but, at the suggestion of Harold Bride (the junior wireless officer on the RMS Titanic), subsequent distress telegrams included the newly adopted SOS signal (first used on U.S. ships in 1909). It features the words 'We have struck iceberg = sinking fast = come to our assistance.'
