SS Emblem Insignia.
These cloth badges are embroidered with the SS runes in silver coloured wire on a black backing. The twin sig rune emblem was adapted into the symbol of the SS in 1933 by Walter Heck, an SS-Sturmhauptführer who was also a graphic designer. He received a token payment of 2.5 Reichsmarks for his work and the symbol quickly became so widespread that during the Nazi period an extra key was added to German typewriters to enable them to type the double-sig logo with a single keystroke.
The badge measures approximately 3 x 3.5 cm.
