Description
The 6th Infantry Division, sometimes known as the “Red Star Division”, was activated in 1917 and participated in a number of significant conflicts, such as the First World War, World War Two and the Vietnam war, to name but a few. In World War 1, the division earned itself the nickname “Sight Seeing Sixth” due to its extensive engagements and marches across France. In World War 2, the division set a record for the most consecutive days of combat in the Pacific Theatre, engaging in 219 days of continuous combat on the Island of Luzon in the Philippines.
The division’s insignia – a red, six-pointed star – symbolises both its vast achievements and the leadership capabilities of this hardened unit.
