Original NVA Helmet

Description

Fantastic East German Army surplus helmet in sturdy steel. These helmets have lightweight liners made from a clear plastic, leather, and foam which provide comfortable support. The helmets fasten with a leather chin strap with a steel buckle.

Please note that due to their surplus nature there may be some variation in design and some visible signs of use.

So, I bought this helmet thinking I’d get something similar to the helmets in the images (of course, they have a lot of helmets, so I knew there would be differences in condition). The shell has a lot of rust, which I was expecting based on the images. But what I didn’t expect was to be able to see the actual steel of the shell— in some spots the paint is completely gone, and you can see the steel. Which is fine.

The inside of the shell is a different story. It’s in semi-good shape, with the remains of an “E” on the dome. But then my eyes caught a giant, still-wet rust spot. All I could really do was throw on a raindrop cover I had lying around to cover the exterior and remove the liner (I’m worried the liner might get rust damage if put back into the shell).

In my opinion, £67 is a fair price for what is shown in the images, but not for what I actually received. I’ve bought from Epic Militaria a lot, and usually, what I get has been nice and sold for a good price, so I think it’s just unlucky and not Epic’s fault. Either way, I’m glad enough with what I got to keep it.
