The NSDAP was by nature a paramilitary organisation. The original purpose of these ranks was to provide leadership and organisation during election. After 1933, these ranks became a political chain of command, harmonising Nazi party leadership with local, regional and national government.
Hauptdienstleiter was a NSDAP rank that was in use until 1939. It was a senior rank, below that of Reichsleiter.
