The M1 helmet was a combat helmet that used widely by the US Armed Forces from the early 1940s until the late ‘80s. Designed to replace earlier helmets that had been used during the First World War, the M1 saw extensive use in a number of differing conflicts, including WW2, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. A revolutionary design, the helmet included a suspension system that replaced the earlier system of cradles, making for a fit that was far more adjustable and comfortable.
Made from elasticated cotton and featuring easily-adjustable metal clips, this suspension system allows for a more stable and secure fit. Alongside this, the system is also designed to allow for better weight distribution, reducing strain on the wearer during long missions and making it a preferred choice amongst troops.
