Kriegsmarine Ober Boatswain Senior NCO Trade Badge
An excellent reproduction WW2 Kriegsmarine Boatswain badge.
In the 19th century the Kaiserliche Marine, the German Imperial Navy, introduced a rating system to differentiate between the different career trades within the navy. This practice carried on to the Reichsmarine and then the Kriegsmarine. By the end of the Second World War there were no less than 19 different career ratings.
For NCO ranks of Maat and Obermaat, this larger badge replaced both the smaller rating badge and the rank chevrons found on lower ranks. Chevrons on the larger, oval NCO rating badge differentiated between Maat and Obermaat NCO’s. The wearer would be addressed by both their rate and rank
The navy blue backing to this badge indicates that this badge was to be worn with the standard Kriegsmarine uniform, as regulations dictated that the backing colour on insignia must match that of the uniform worn. Please see our other listings for this badge in the white of the Kriegsmarine Summer and Tropical uniform.
Set on a navy blue background with golden yellow threading, this is an authentic reproduction Kriegsmarine Boatswain badge.
