German Reproduction Black leather K98 Mauser Rifle Bayonet Frog.
The German Wehrmacht had in the early stages of the war produced two types of bayonet frogs. One for unmounted personnel without retaining strap and one with the addition of a retaining strap for mounted personnel.
As per the regulations of January 1939 the bayonet frog without the retaining strap was to be discontinued and replaced by the bayonet frog with the horizontal retaining strap.
However as with all items and kit changes throughout the war, the supply of these frogs was haphazard and did not always make it through to soldiers, examples of these frogs can be seen in photos throughout the war.
