The 1st SS Panzer Division Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler began its existence in 1923 as the personal bodyguards of Hitler. After the Nazi's seized power the group was expanded into a division size formation. It was involved in the invasions of Poland, France, Greece and the Soviet Union. The division also battled against the Allied invasions of Italy and Normandy.
