Description
The MG34 and MG42 were revolutionary machine guns developed by Germany during the interwar period. Following the Treaty of Versailles, which prohibited Germany from producing heavy machine guns, secret development began in Switzerland in the early 1930s. By 1934, designer Louis Stange of the Rheinmetall armaments factory, had improved upon this design, resulting in the MG34. Despite its higher production cost, the MG34 was adopted by the Wehrmacht in 1936 and quickly became an iconic weapon. Along with the MG34, a leather carrying sling was issued, and while the design remained largely the same for the MG42, slight differences in the attachment clip size made it harder to use the MG34 sling with the MG42.
This reproduction sling is crafted from durable brown leather, constructed to mimic the appearance of the original. It measures approximately 29 inches long and approximately 7/8 inches in width. Alongside this, the sling features 6 inch padded central section on each strap for added comfort when carrying the machine gun. One end features a steel friction attachment clip, while the other has a rectangular steel push-release clip with a swivel bar, allowing for easy adjustment and a secure fit. Whether slung over the shoulder or used for firing from the hip during manoeuvres, the design ensures a secure and comfortable carry.
