Post-War German Y-Straps
Just like their WW2 counterparts and many other countries, the Y-straps were the base for carrying a soldiers field kit. By being worn over the shoulders, the waist belt would sit on the 3 hooks to distribute the weight of the kit around the body. The two extra straps were then used to attach various kit items, from ammo cans, grenades, ammo pouches, tool kits. Many armies worldwide used a similar system before modernising to assault vests and different models such as the ALICE and MOLLE system.
The slings are made from a blue/ grey nylon webbing with steel belt hooks and D-rings.
