German WW2 Close Combat Clasp -  Award for achievement in close combat.

These awards were introduced in 1942 for achievement in close combat. All battles and their dates had to be documented by the battle commander then verified by the general and authenticated by different divisions of the war department before they were issued.

The clasp would be awarded as follows:

  • For 15 battles the Bronze Class was awarded
  • For 25 battles the Silver Class was awarded
  • For 50 and over battles the Gold Class was awarded

However if the soldier was wounded in battle and unable to return to the front then the criteria were reduced to 10, 20 and 40 battles.

These are the bronze variants which were awarded to 36,400 soldiers during WW2.
