Description
Introduced in 1941, the Luftwaffe Fighter Clasp was designed to recognise the remarkable dedication of aircrew members who had completed a significant number of operational flights. The clasp, featuring a central bomb with laurel leaves on either side, is designed to be worn on the breast of a pilot’s jacket and would have featured as a prominent mark of individual achievement.
This medal was awarded in three grades, dependant on the number of flights completed:
- Bronze for 20 flights.
- Silver for 60 flights.
- Gold for 100 flights.
The silver version, as featured here represents a significant milestone in a pilot’s career. Following 60 operational flights, which could be defined as any mission where an enemy was engaged or enemy airspace was penetrated. If a mission lasted a certain amount of time or was particularly challenging, it could be counted as more than one flight toward the total.
Our version, measuring 3 inches by 1 inch, and featuring a fantastic central motif, is an exceptional reproduction. Crafted with precision, this medal features an antique silver finish that enhances its intricate design. It perfectly captures the historical importance of the original award, and serves as a striking tribute to the bravery and skill demonstrated by the pilots of the German Air Force.
