Gendarmerie Alpinist Badge.
Ths excellent reproduction badge is made from a strong silver coloured metal and has a large sturdy clip on the reverse. The badge has green and white enamelling on the front.
This award was given to Ordnungspolizei members who were proficient in skiing and mountaineering. These badges were originally an Austrian award and produced by Klein in Vienna. After the Anschluss in 1938, the Austrian Wappen (Coat of Arms) was replaced by the Nazi Eagle and Swastika, which was usually soldered or riveted over the top. After the Anschluss these badges were manufactured without the Wappen entirely.
