Reproduction volunteer shield as worn by French volunteers during WW2.

Worn by members of the French Waffen-SS Charlemagne division. Formed in 1941 from pro-fascist Frenchmen and POWs, the Legion of French Volunteers against Bolshevism fought extensively on the eastern front. Badly beaten during Operation Bagration the remnants were formed into the Waffen-SS Charlemagne Division. The division was one of the last to surrender during the Battle of Berlin.

French flag on black shield, this version does not have "France" on the top.

The badge measures approximately 6 x 4.5 cm.
