These reproduction pair of Corporal rank stripes were worn proudly by American NCOs during the Second World War. The double chevron denotes the rank of corporal for the US Army and is to be worn on the sleeves at a midway point between the shoulder and the elbow. Measuring 8cm x 8cm at their widest and longest points they are made from a woollen background with a meticulously detailed machine threaded embroidery.

The rank of corporal is the lowest ranking NCO (non-commissioned officer) which was equivalent to a specialist in terms of pay. However, a corporal did have the ability to direct the activities of other soldiers of those in a lower rank. In 1940, the recognition of the importance of small-unit tactics and increased the squad size to 12 – with the squad now led by a sergeant with a corporal as the assistant. In February 1944, the squad leader became a staff sergeant, dropping the corporal out of the chain of command.
