High quality reproduction US Combat Infantryman Badge - 3rd Award.
Established on 15 November 1943, the Combat Infantryman Badge is awarded to US soldiers for being present, and under hostile fire while serving in an infantry or special forces unit actively engaging the enemy in ground combat after 6th December 1941.
In order to qualify for the 3rd award, a soldier would have to have served in ground combat in three of the following 4 periods of combat:
- WW2
- The Korean War
- The Vietnam War and other conflicts up to 1995
- The Global War on Terrorism from 2001 onward
For example, a soldier participating in ground combat in WW2, the Korean War and the Vietnam War would receive the 2nd award. However, a soldier serving in Afghanistan, Iraq (since 2003) and any other combat engagement since 2001 would only qualify for the 1st award as those conflicts fall into the same period of eligibility. Due to the considerable amount of time between the Korean War and the Global War on Terrorism, virtually all receipients of the 3rd Combat Infantryman Badge award served in WW2, Korea and Vietnam. Even so, personnel holding the 3rd award are very rare.
These badges are made from great quality blue enamel and metal and are excellent reproductions of the originals. They come with two clutch pins on the back.
