Cockade - Machine embroidered Field grey
In stock
Quality, machine-embroidered reproduction of a German Army Cockade.
First introduced in 1897 on the centaury of Emperor Wilhelm I, who oversaw the Unification of Germany, this military cockade was symbolic of the unity of the German military. The Imperial colours also represent the largest and smallest countries of the Reich; Prussia (black and white) and the Hanseatic City States of Hamburg, Bremen and Lübeck (white and red).
Although this cockade fell out of favour during the Weimar years in favour of a black, red and gold combination, it was reintroduced by the Nazi government who keen to restore pride in its military forces. This cockade was worn by all branches of the German military.
This particular cockade is machine embroidered on a field grey backing.
