During World War Two, the Bank of England was concerned that the currency could be counterfeited. To thwart this, they changed the One Pound note from the traditional green to blue and pink. They also imbedded a security thread, a revolutionary addition at the time. Once the war was over, they reverted to the original green note but kept the security thread. To this day, the security thread still features within our notes.
Similarly, other notes also changed during the war to thwart counterfeiters.
