Bavarian Order of Military Merit With Crown and Swords - 3rd Class

The Military Merit Order medals were amongst Bavaria’s highest awards for bravery, and ranked only below the Military Order of Max Joseph.
These are the 3rd class gold version with crown and swords which were awarded to colonels and lieutenant colonels. The swords denote wartime issue.
The medal features a blue enamelled cross with a central black and white enamelled medallion on a gold coloured metal background. On one side the medallion has a crowned ‘L’ cipher (for the founder King Ludwig II) and the word ‘Merenti’ and in the other the Bavarian Lion and founding year of 1866. Above this are the crossed swords and crown.
These are beautifully crafted medals with a high level of detail and come complete with the ribbon.
