The Austrian Annexation Medal Ribbon was awarded to commemorate the Anschluss, the formal annexation of Austria into Nazi Germany on March 12, 1938. This event marked a significant turning point in European history as Nazi Germany began to expand beyond its own territorial borders. The annexation was met with little resistance, and was justified by the Nazi government as a unification of ethnic Germans. This event was the first domino of many to fall that would eventually lead to the Second World War.
