This canteen cover represents a major wartime design update. Introduced in late 1941 under the Jeffersonville Quartermaster Depot specification J.Q.D. No. 1, the United States military shifted the main structural seam from the back to the side. This change was implemented to reduce canvas waste and speed up production.

We made this reproduction using heavy cotton duck canvas dyed in the lighter Olive Drab No. 3 (OD3) shade, which was standard for early-to-midwar gear. It features a thick grey wool-felt lining for insulation. On the front, you will find a crisp black U.S. stencil and two secure Lift-the-Dot snap fasteners.

The side-seam design provides a bit more room inside, making it much easier to slide your 1-quart canteen and nesting cup in and out. The sturdy M1910 double wire hook on the back lets you mount it directly to your M1936 pistol belt or cartridge belt, so your water stays secure during active field reenactments.
