8th Infantry Division
8th Infantry Division
US Division Patches - 8th. Infantry Division. They were known as the "Pathfinder" or "Golden Arrow Division" during WW2, with their motto being "These are my Credentials".
The 8th ID can trace their history back to World War 1 and have fought since including WW2, and Iraq.
During WW2, the Division arrived in Normandy at Omaha Beach, around a month following D-Day. They went onto fight throughout France, Luxembourg and eventually into Germany.
When the 8th ID Deputy Commander, Brigadier General Charles Canham arrived in Brest to accept the German surrender, General Hermann-Bernard Ramcke asked the him to show his credentials. Canham pointed to his nearby troops and said
"These are my credentials".
That phrase has since become the 8th Infantry Division's motto.
The 8th ID was inactivated in January 1992.
This is a fantastic reproduction of the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia worn by the unit. It depicts an embroidered white '8' with a golden arrow through the middle, both on a blue shield.
Perfect for your 8th Infantry Division collection!
