1st Cavalry Division Patch.

Brand new reproduction US 1st Cavalry Division patch. Nicknamed 'First Team', the 1st Cav can trace their history back to the 1920's and have fought in WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Formed in 1921, the 1st Cavalry Division was created with their HQ based at Forth Bliss, Texas. Following the Pearl Harbor attack, the Division shipped out the Far East, entering combat on the Admiralty Islands in late February 1944. The surrounding islands were to soon be captured by American forces. In October 1944, the Division took part in the invasion of Leyte, followed by landing on Luzon in January 1945. It was in Luzon where the 1st Cav finished the war. In September they went to mainland Japan to take part in occupation duty in Tokyo.

Taking part in the Korean War, 9 soldiers from the 1st Cavalry Division was awarded Medal of Honor's. The Korean War finished with the 1st Cavalry Division having 3,811 Killed in Action.

During the Vietnam War, the 1st Cavalry became an Air Assault division, and were titled 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile). The use of helicopters on such large scale as troop carriers, cargo lift ships, medevacs, and as aerial rocket artillery, was never before implemented, but the 1st Air Cav were able to use the equipment and new tactics to great advantage.

Following the end of the Vietnam War, the Division once again was converted to have a triple capability. This meant that they had Armored, Air Cavalry and Air Mobile roles. The 1st Cavalry was to go on to see action in the First Gulf War, Peacekeeping in Bosnia, and serve in both the Second Gulf War as well as Afghanistan.

This Shoulder Sleeve Insignia features a yellow background with a black stripe and horse head silhouette. The Yellow represents the traditional colour of the Cavalry. The black diagonal stripe represents a sword 'Baldrick' (type of sword belt) and is a mark of military honour. The Horse head represents their cavalry roots.

The badge is approximately 10.5 long and approximately 7.8 cm wide.

Perfect for your 1st Cavalry Division collection!
