D-Day US Infantry

On the 6th June 1944, Operation Overlord (the invasion of Northern France by Allied forces) began. On the US sector beaches, codenamed Omaha and Utah, approximately 57,000 US troops came ashore.

The US forces suffered around 2,600 casualites on this first day.
