D-Day British Infantry
On the 6th June 1944, Operation Overlord (the invasion of Northern France by Allied forces) began. On the British and Canadian sector beaches, codenamed Sword, Gold and Juno, approximately 74,245 British and Canadian troops came ashore.
The British and Canadian forces suffered around 2600 casualites on this first day.
